The CSIR Meraka Insitute and HP team up to launch the HP Catalyst Initiative

The CSIR Meraka Institute is collaborating with Hewlett-Packard in the launch of a new global grant program called the HP Catalyst Initiative, which explores what the future of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education can look like. Each of the five consortia will be exploring a specific innovation theme, and will receive more than$1 million in technology, cash, and professional assistance.

The Meraka Institute has been invited to facilitate the “Global Collaboratory” consortium, which will employ the power of collaborative grid computing so that students will be able to participate in collaborative problem-solving to address urgent social challenges. This theme builds on the HP/UNESCO Brain Gain project in Africa for which the Meraka Institute has already played a pivotal role.

The deadline to register an intent-to-apply is 30 June 2010. For more information about the HP Catalyst Initiative, grant eligibility, and other new education initiatives from HP, visit hp.com/go/catalyst
