SAGrid is a federation of computing resources, provided by various institutes, who form a collaboration called the "Joint Research Unit" or JRU. The resources provided to users of the grid are administered in the federation according to the local policies of the institute or group hosting the site, while agreeing to respect overall policies established for the mutual benefit of all users.
Institutes or groups can provide resources to the grid on a case-by-case basis, however a final adhesion to the JRU agreement, which is an administrative procedure defined in the JRU document itself. For more information, the JRU document is publicly available at

Technical steps to be undertaken before a site is "on the grid' include
- site administrator training
- site installation and middleware deployment
- site application installation
- site incubation and testing
- site certification
